CSA Cases - what we are all about!
CSA Cases, designed and written by GPs who have successfully passed the CSA. Our aim is to help others successfully navigate the CSA MRCGP exam. The key to success in any exam is preparation and practise, our site is here to help with both. We provide you with cases, that you can role-play with colleagues within a small group. The cases come complete with a marking sheet, based on the openly available RCGP reference marking proforma. In addition, each case comes complete with management advice and a jargon free explanation.
Now, it must be stressed that our cases were made by us, and any similarities to cases you may get in the exam will be totally coincidental - trust us on this, we would not risk our licence to give you an unfair advantage in the exam! That being said, we have drawn on our experience, to create cases that we feel accurately represent the type of scenarios / difficult cases / difficult patients that you may find in the exam.

How to Make the most of our cases
When preparing for the CSA, we recommend revising in small revision groups, meeting regularly to practise cases. To aid your revision we have written cases that resemble situations you may find in the exam. The cases are designed for role-play - for each scenario there is information for the Doctor, the Patient, and the Examiner. We have included a marking scheme for each case, as well as a brief guide outlining the key learning points for each scenario. The more diverse the group, the better.
The key to getting the most from role-play is in setting up a safe and effective environment. To do this, ensure that ground rules are in place, give yourselves time to get in and out of characters, and give individuals the option of opting out a case should they desire. How you give feedback plays a large part in creating the right environment. There are many different models for feedback, the most common being Pendleton's model and ALOBA (agenda led outcome based analysis). The differences between them, including their pro's and cons are discussed succinctly here.

How our site works
Having recently been through the exam and revision process, we are aware that often small group revision occurs away from a desktop computer. Therefore, our goal was therefore to create a website that worked well on mobile devices.
We have separated our cases up into five sub-headings, with easily accessible icons to switch between them, keeping the layout clean and simple. See the diagram to the right to see how the layout looks when you load a case. Click on the circle to access the required information |
